Media Studies course update
Now in my Media AS classes I understand allot more than what I did when I first started the course. When I started the course I thought that Media Studies would be all about just watching movies and television programs. However as I went further into the course I learnt how it is that but there is more to it, for example when watching a film or television programs we would learn in class about how to analyse them, how they were made, camera shots and angles, sound effects etc. For the coursework side of the course we have to make an opening sequence of a film which has to be 2 minutes long. The Genre that my group and I have chosen for our opening sequence is Psychological Thriller. We chose this genre because all of us in the group enjoy watching thriller movies so we thought that we should make one, but with a twist of the psychological aspect to it which is why we chose this genre. Before making the opening sequence we had to learn about the things that go into making a film/opening sequence. Some of the things we learnt about were; camera angles, camera shots, sound, editing, mise-en-scene, audience and purpose etc. learning all of these thing really helped my understanding of making an opening sequence as if I hadn't learned these things I would of just gone out with a video camera and filmed however and whatever I wanted to film. I am really enjoying this course as it has opened my eyes more to the world and its media and want to continue learning for the remainder of doing this course, for when I go out into the world as an adult I would have an understanding about television, film and the media.

Film 4.3.2.1
Today in film club I watched '4.3.2.1'. It is about 4 girls ( Shannon, Keerys, Jo & Cassandra) in 2 cities within 3 days allot of things happen to them, and throughout the movie we see each of their lives after each other but it all happened on the same day.
From this film I learned about Linear narrative and non-linear narrative because the film is a non-linear narrative as the start of the film is actually the end of the film. I also learnt about the way that the film structures the characters, the way that it is split up about each girl and they way it is done.
From the film I was inspired by they way that they had done a non-linear narrative because it definitely keeps the audience interested because they would want to know what had happened in the movie as to why the ending was like that.

Things that I have Learnt
Over the past week I have learnt a lot and done a lot of such as filming for our preliminary task and learning about the different shots and angles that you can film from. I also improved on my editing skills as my group and I had to edit the video for our preliminary task so that it would actually look like a short clip. also this week me and my group were sorting out our ideas for our opening sequence task which we would soon be filming, we had to come up of a final idea from all of the other ideas that we had in mind and the genre that we had chosen was Psychological Drama we chose this because of previous films that we had watched and what we got inspiration from.

Preliminary Task Draft 1
This presentation was to show our teacher our ideas that myself and my group put together to come up with a final idea for the preliminary task, which is to show that we can use different shots and angles and also to show 2 people having a conversation.
The feedback that we got from my teacher was that to:
use more picture to make it more visual, instead of putting just text on the page use more diagrams, to put more shots on our overhead plan and in also include the story board but other than that it was a good presentation and that we should make the changes

Overview So Far
So far I am enjoying doing media studies as I am learning a lot of new things, it is also helping me to build up my own confidence as before I came on to this course I wasn't a very confident person but doing all the things like presentations and things helped me become more confident. It has also built up some of my skills such as teamwork, organisational and also communication skills, which weren't as good before i started the course but now have developed.

For this Presentation I had to look at an Opening Sequence of a movie which was Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which is in the genre of horror. From doing this presentation I learnt new things on how to analyse something such as an opening sequence. The new things that I had learnt were things like learning what Diagetic and Non-Diagetic sound was, on the imaging- Denotation and Connotation etc. I enjoyed doing this presentation because I learnt new things and it would be helpful for me in the future when it comes to me making my own opening sequence.

Narrative Research Presentation
4 my narrative research draft 1
For this presentation I had to research 3 men who were film theorists and find general information about them including what kind of theorists they were. I then had to find out, understand and explain certain key words (e.g.- Equilibrium, Binary Opposition, Flashbacks etc.). This presentation helped me because I learnt new keywords which I had never heard of before, which also will help me with future projects as I would know new vocabulary, which all together gave me a wider understanding of media studies.

Partner Genre Presentation

For this presentation I had to do it with a partner, which i enjoyed as you got to learn what their view were on the chosen genre which was Drama. From this presentation I learnt how to analyse how different movies met the conventions of the genre that it was in. Learning this would be easier for me in the long run as I would need it in the long term.

Doing this presentation I learnt all of the different types of genres that there are and also including their sub genres. I also learnt what thing that I should expect from a certain type of film e.g. Drama film- love, violence, comedy etc. This is why I think that I have learnt new things from doing this presentation.
After i had done the presentation my teacher Ms Connell gave me comments about my presentation (WWW- what went well) (EBI- even better if). I think that the comments that she gave me were really good as it would help me improve on future presentations

From having this Media Key Terms sheet, I would be able to know what the key terms are for the Media Studies course for me to be able to succeed and pass the course. This sheet is also very helpful as before I started the course I knew very few of any of the key terms.
